In December 2008, David Cadia, founder and owner of CADIMO, collaborated with AIR, a DC based NGO. AIR manages a USDOL funded project focusing on preventing and eliminating the worst forms of child labor in Nicaragua, ENTERATE. CADIMO provided design services at no cost to the project,
and as David learned more and more about the issue of child labor he was inspired to design an international symbol to help expose this issue in the coffee sector. The debut of this mark at the SCAA in Atlanta in April 2009 was well embraced by consumers, independent roasters, baristas, and retailers, motivating the design thinker to move in a more sustainable direction that was also in tune with CADIMO’s business social innovation interests.

Currently, CADIMO is engaging a group of coffee coops, exporters and producers in Nicaragua in an innovative initiative where each member in the coffee chain of production, from picker to consumer, takes part in a natural network of social auditing… Child Labor Free… certified by you and me.
